The Inspiration

My inspiration for starting the Food Gift Network was quite simple.

I had been working for a number of years in the Promotional Marketing field. One year I ordered food gifts from one of the “big” retail food sites for several important clients. Fortunately, I had the foresight to open, inspect and taste them beforehand.

Talk about creative camera work! The items were much smaller than they appeared in the catalog.

Then I tasted one of the items. Ugh! It was mediocre at best, but to make it worse, it wasn't even fresh!

So I started doing some research. What I discovered was that the large size of the big food houses actually works against them. Sure, they could fill thousands of orders per day, but in order to do so, they had to package their products weeks, or even months, in advance. In short, as they got bigger, they were forced to sacrifice quality and freshness for expediency.

The Big Idea

Then it occurred to me. The reason that all of these food gift sites are forced to sacrifice quality is because they are all Retail sites. Almost none of them specialize in Business to Business food gifts, yet Food Gifts are by far the No. 1 gift choice of Business Owners and Buyers.*

So I thought – why not start one? (Sometimes the best ideas are the simplest).

Given my background in Promotions and Marketing, this seemed like a natural.
